Gulfoss

Gulfoss

Gullfoss (Golden waterfall) is probably Iceland's most famous waterfall, and many consider it to be one of the natural wonders of the world. Gullfoss is by far Europe’s most powerful waterfall.

On the day we visited, the mist cloud surrounding the falls created a beautiful rainbow. This is one place where the picture does not necessarily provide a proper record of the unparalleled spectacle of color and motion created by this wonderful waterfall.

It is in the mighty glacial river Hvita (White river), just a few kilometres from Geysir. The enormous white glacial cascade drops 32 metres into a narrow canyon which is 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres long.
